About

Alice Schoenberg is a female, queer identifying and Canadian born artist. She graduated from the Alberta University of the Arts in 2019, and is pursuing her MFA at the Parsons New School.

Her practice explores the nature of liberation and power as it manifests for marginalized and non-marginalized bodies, especially in relation to how the commodification of affective acts performs an allocation of power and bodily obligation. These questions manifest in her practice as performance and video work, performing as an exaggerated superwoman character with overdrawn red lips, undergoing an identity crisis represented through video distortion as well as the delivery of distorted monologues and audio. She performs exaggerated characterizations of femininity and expectations of those bodies to challenge these capitalist, patriarchal structures that have evaded deconstruction by various contemporary feminist reformation movements.

Schoenberg has shown her works within the Alberta College of Art + Design, as well as artist run centres such as Latitude 53 and the New Gallery.
