Systemic Activism (by and for this body only) (2019) is a video work which is 10:24 minutes long, and installed by a large scale projection in a completely blacked out room. The work consists of Schoenberg’s performance character, the superwoman, the image of privileged and empty images of revolution, moving through multiple spaces which take on the Woman’s March as a core point of contention. The artists views the Woman’s March as an example of failed contemporary activism because it has become a government mandated mass movement meant to sedate desire for social change in those who are in greater positions of privilege, while excluding those without. The work uses sound and visuals, such as the pink pussy hat, to link these failings to the integration of capitalism into these movements and as a method of sedation. The video takes campy, exaggerated imagery, contrasted with unnerving sounds, and put to a scale which becomes confrontational.
