"The feminine body on defence" is a performance piece in which the images taken out of a self defence pamphlet for woman were photoshopped to isolate and decontextualize the female instructors body. These images were them placed on a vibrant pink background which was projected onto a wall, creating a space in which the performance occurs within. While a highly feminized and sexualized presentation of the artists body goes through the posturing of the images of the self defence instructor, a echoed and distorted version of "Stronger than Yesterday" by Brittany Spears fills the space. This work explored the contradiction in the expectation of a female body to be both feminine and a body on defence, and in what spaces these notions of being on defence actually manifest.
